Meizu has officially announced the launch date for its new series of affordable smartphones, the Note 16. The lineup will debut on May 13 at 2:30 p.m. Beijing time, and along with it, the company will show off an updated version of its proprietary Flyme AIOS 2 system. The series will include two devices – the Meizu Note 16 and Note 16 Pro. Both smartphones will get an updated design with flat edges and an emphasis on unique camera design. The base version has the camera housed in an octagonal unit inspired by traditional Chinese architecture, while the Pro model has a round-shaped module. Both versions come with a circular LED flash.

Flyme AIOS 2 will first appear not only on flagships, but also on more affordable devices. Meizu says it’s aiming to make the interface “more balanced and user-friendly” and is focusing on ergonomics: the Note 16 Pro will feature a symmetrical body and minimal bezels at just 1.45mm thick, while the regular Note 16 will have curved 2.5D edges and a voluminous back panel for a better grip.
Preliminary leaks suggest that the Meizu Note 16 will get a 6.78-inch LCD display with a resolution of 2460×1080 pixels and a front camera hole. The processor may be powered by the Unisoc T765 chipset. The camera will include a 50MP main sensor and a 2MP secondary sensor, while the front-facing camera will be 8MP. Also expected are up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM, a 6600mAh battery with 40W charging support, and a functional side button that will likely be used for AI tasks.
The Meizu Note 16 is expected to be the brand’s next attempt to gain a foothold in the low-cost but tech-savvy smartphone segment with a unique approach to design and user experience.
