Huawei unveiled the Mate 80 series: bright screen, new Kirin and updated cameras
Huawei has officially unveiled the Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro. Externally, the smartphones are almost indistinguishable as they use the same display, battery, and a number of other elements.
The two devices get a 6.75-inch LTPO OLED display with 1 to 120Hz, 1280×2832 pixel resolution, support for 1.07 billion colors and full coverage of the P3 color space. The screen offers PWM dimming at 1440Hz and a response rate of 300Hz.
The display has been designed with a PWM dimming at 1440Hz and a response rate of 300Hz.
Huawei claims this is the brightest display in a smartphone — its peak brightness reaches 8,000 nits. It’s topped with a second-generation Kunlun Glass protective glass.

The Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro feature a 3D ToF camera for facial recognition, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and satellite connectivity.
The Mate 80 Pro has a Kirin 9030 chip inside, while the Mate 80 is powered by Kirin 9020. Details about the processors are still scarce, but Huawei says: the Kirin 9030 is 35% more powerful than the Kirin 9020, and the Kirin 9020 itself is also 35% more powerful than the Kirin 9010. The smaller version relative to the Pro Max uses a Kirin 9030 chip, while the Mate 80 Pro Max gets a Kirin 9030 Pro, which is about 7% faster than the base Kirin 9030.

The two smartphones are available with 12GB or 16GB of RAM. The Pro Max version —s only available with 16GB.
The Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro both feature a 5,750 mAh battery. However, the Mate 80 Pro supports faster charging speeds: up to 100W on cable and 80W wirelessly. The Mate 80 offers 66W of wired charging and 50W of wireless charging.

The cameras on the models are similar, but there are differences in the telephoto lens. Both smartphones get a triple main camera and a 13MP front-facing camera with autofocus (f/2.0).
The Mate 80 has a 50MP wide-angle camera with variable aperture f/1.4-f/4.0 and a 1/1.28″ RYYB sensor, a 40MP ultra-wide (f/2.2), and a 12MP periscope with 5.5x zoom (125mm, f/3.4).

The Mate 80 Pro has the same wide and ultra-wide cameras, but uses an improved telephoto lens with a 48MP sensor, 4x zoom (92.5mm), and a much lighter f/2.1 aperture.
The two systems are powered by the second generation of Red Maple’s proprietary image processor, which is responsible for processing and color reproduction.

The Mate 80 series runs on HarmonyOS 6, which gets a redesigned design and enhanced AI capabilities.
