The development was shared by Panily Apple, citing the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Samsung’s patent describes a tablet with a retractable screen. It will expand and contract horizontally: the display unfolds sideways as the tablet body “slides” left and right.

To realize this idea, Samsung could include some sort of “guide node” in the body. It would need to accept the flexible display section inside the case and release it based on the current settings. The patent also shows in the form of a schematic how the device works, the design includes a lot of gears, transfer units and guides. OPPO has implemented a similar idea in its X 2021 smartphone.

The release date of Samsung’s new tablet is currently unknown.
