The lens supports a continuous focal range of 75mm to 100mm and, according to the company, offers full optical zoom without switching to digital cropping between fixed values.” The camera’s lens supports a continuous focal range of 75mm to 100mm and, according to the company, offers full optical zoom without switching to digital cropping between fixed values. Xiaomi emphasizes that this is the first smartphone lens capable of maintaining full 200-megapixel optical resolution across the entire zoom range, while earning Leica APO certification. This certification includes improved color correction and reduced chromatic aberration, which is especially important when shooting with a telephoto lens. The optical scheme of the lens incorporates a 3G + 5P design with a double floating lens group. The movable elements within the module shift precisely as the focal length changes, providing real optical zoom in a compact body. According to Xiaomi, the solution is based on the principles used in professional camera zoom lenses rather than classic smartphone periscopes. The company has also published comparative sample shots taken at 75mm, 85mm, 90mm and 100mm focal lengths. In these, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra shows better sharpness, better fine detail and natural color reproduction with less reliance on aggressive post-processing. This approach, according to the manufacturer, is especially noticeable in portrait photography due to stable background compression without digital interpolation. Besides the telephoto camera, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will get a main module with a new one-inch Leica OmniVision Light Fusion 1050L sensor. It uses LOFIC technology with extended dynamic range for more accurate light and dark areas in contrasting scenes. It is also confirmed to be the company’s thinnest Ultra smartphone – it will be 8.29mm thick. Xiaomi expects the price to go up due to higher component costs, but says that the final user experience should justify it.
