iPhone 15 Pro owners reported NFC modules not working

Apple has admitted that the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max suffer from overheating, and pointed out a bug in iOS 17. A fix is forthcoming, but a new problem has emerged — wireless charging can damage the NFC module. A few isolated cases have been reported so far, but they happen often enough that it can be ignored. Several people on the MacRumors forums and Site X have reported problems setting up Apple Pay — when swapping phones at the Apple Store, employees assumed the NFC module had died.
People eventually found a possible cause — the problems started after using wireless charging in BMW cars. It didn’t quietly damage the phone, in some cases it went into data recovery mode. And it’s not a faulty device — in the replaced phones also failed NFC modules. According to users, previous iPhone models had no such problems.
So far, reports are coming in from iPhone 15 Pro owners who drive BMWs, though one user of a 2023 Toyota Supra reported that Apple Pay on his 15 Pro doesn’t work.
