OnePlus is now officially launching a teaser campaign to create hype around the upcoming device.

So, today we have an Unbox Therapy video in which the company’s boss Pete Lau gives an interview of sorts. He talks about the device’s articulated design, for which the corporation holds 35 patents.

It’s no surprise that the OnePlus Open closes without a gap between the hinges, as demonstrated in a test in which a piece of paper was «clamped» inside and then the phone was lifted by that piece of paper without it slipping. This moment gives a glimpse of the hardware as well, though there’s a huge piece of what looks like cardboard on top of the giant camera bump.

The Open has 31 fewer components than the Oppo Find N2’s hinge, reducing size and weight. Lau claims the company is «bringing the best phone» to the start of the race, despite not being one of the first to enter the foldable device race. It promises the fast and smooth performance we’re used to from other OnePlus devices. In addition, a notification slider has also made an appearance.

So far.

Lau says the device was developed jointly by the OnePlus and Oppo teams, each bringing a unique experience. He also mentions that there will be multiple «go-to-market» strategies. It’s a veiled confirmation of the fact that the same device will be sold as the OnePlus Open in the international market and as the Oppo Find N3 in China.
