Sony Xperia 1 VII: Announcement could take place on May 15, global release only in summer

The Sony Xperia 1 VI smartphone was unveiled on May 15, 2023, and if fresh rumors out of Japan are to be believed, its successor, the Xperia 1 VII, could debut exactly one year later on May 15, 2024.
According to the leak, the device will go on sale in Japan on the day of the announcement, while the international release isn’t scheduled until July. That’s not surprising: Sony has a history of launching its smartphones in the domestic market with a noticeable delay before the global release.
Sony’s been known to launch its smartphones in the domestic market with a noticeable delay before the global release.

Xperia 1 VII has already lit up the Geekbench database with a new flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset (expected Snapdragon 8 Gen 4), complemented by 12GB of RAM – just like its predecessor. The smartphone will ship with Android 15, even though Android 16 could be released as early as the end of June.
From a design perspective, the differences will be minimal. The body dimensions will be 161.9 × 74.5 × 8.5mm, making the device slightly shorter, wider and thicker than the Xperia 1 VI. The display diagonal will remain the same at 6.5 inches.
