The Huawei Mate XT smartphone, which features a unique triple-bend body design, continues to surprise experts and users. Mate XT was released in the fall of 2024 and was the world’s first mass-produced smartphone with a triple-folding design. The device instantly caused a stir and became an instant hit despite costing comparable to a car. On the wave of high demand, its price on the secondary market in China reached 50,000 yuan (about 6,800 US dollars).

At the end of the year, the device was the first triple-folding smartphone in the world.

A version with 16GB of RAM and 512GB or 1TB of storage is currently available for 21,999 and 23,999 yuan, respectively. The 256GB base configuration remains in short supply: Huawei may have limited its production or interest in the lower model may have been lower than expected.

In February, the company kicked off the international expansion of the Mate XT by introducing it in several countries in Asia and Latin America, as well as the Middle East. Outside of China, the smartphone is only available in a top-of-the-line variant with 1TB of storage.

With Huawei’s success, competitors are not being left behind. Samsung is already rumored to be preparing a response in the form of its first trifolder codenamed Q7M (model SM-F968). The novelty is expected to debut in October, and initially will be focused only on the markets of China and South Korea. According to analysts, the company intends to test demand in local markets first before going global.

With the high standards set by Huawei, Samsung will have to do its best: buyers will be scrutinizing the design, functionality and, of course, price of the new foldable flagship.
