Samsung Galaxy S26 Edge: big battery, but no revolutionary technology

Ahead of its expected launch in January 2026, Samsung’s new flagship Galaxy S26 Edge is starting to take shape. According to certification data in China’s 3C Database, the device will get a significant increase in battery capacity, but its design is likely to remain close to the current one – without the ultra-thin formatting that has been previously rumored.

Confirmation of increased battery

The SM-S947 model, registered under the code EB-BS947ABY, has a 4200 mAh battery (rated at 4078 mAh). This is slightly more than the Galaxy S25 Edge, which had a 3,900 mAh battery. This increase should significantly improve battery life, especially in light of criticism of the previous model, which had average screen life.

The increased battery capacity will give the S26 Edge an edge over competitors like the iPhone 17 Air, which is rumored to have a battery capacity of just 2,900 mAh. Despite work on resource management with artificial intelligence, a larger battery remains an important factor in improving smartphone uptime.

The S26 Edge’s battery life is still an important factor in improving smartphone performance.

It was previously speculated that Samsung could use innovative silicon-carbon batteries, which would make the device thinner – around 5.5mm. However, certification shows that the Galaxy S26 Edge uses a traditional lithium-ion battery. That means the smartphone is likely to remain close to 5.8mm thick, like the S25 Edge, and it won’t be able to compete with Apple’s supposed 5.65mm ultra-thin design.

The Galaxy S26 Edge will likely stay close to 5.8mm thick, like the S25 Edge, and won’t be able to compete with Apple’s supposed 5.65mm ultra-thin design.

The confirmation of battery capacity suggests that Samsung will focus on improving battery life, but the rejection of new battery technology means that the smartphone’s design and weight will remain roughly the same as the Galaxy S25 Edge. The Galaxy S26 Edge is expected to be a balanced device with an improved battery but no revolutionary changes in power technology.
