Samsung Galaxy M56 gets a weaker Exynos 1480 chip – a setback compared to the M55?

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy M56 may disappoint fans of the brand: the new product, revealed in the Geekbench database, didn’t get the expected high-performance Exynos 1580 chip like the Galaxy A56, but an older Exynos 1480. The M series traditionally copies the performance of the A lineup while offering a more affordable price point. But this time around, the performance retreat is perplexing even to loyal fans.
The Galaxy M56 has been revealed to have the same processor as last year’s A55
The smartphone with the model number SM-M566B has appeared in the Geekbench benchmark, which indicates that it is powered by the Exynos 1480 processor. This 4nm chip was first introduced in the Galaxy A55 and includes four Cortex-A78 and four Cortex-A55 cores, as well as Xclipse 530 graphics. The device packs 8GB of RAM and comes with Android 15 – confirming that we’re talking about the next member of the M-series.

Comparison with the A56 and M55 reveals a rollback in specs
In comparison, the Galaxy A56 gets the new Exynos 1580, built on Cortex-A720 and Cortex-A520 cores, and features a more advanced Xclipse 540 graphics gas pedal. Even the Galaxy M55 released earlier offered a higher-performance Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip with Cortex-A710 and A510 cores and Adreno 644 graphics. Last year’s M55 stood out for its faster charging and good performance, while the M56 may be a step backwards, judging by the leak.

It’s important to keep in mind that in real-world usage scenarios, the Exynos 1480 from the Galaxy A55 often performed better than the Snapdragon in the M55 – at the expense of power efficiency and optimization. So, despite the “paper” loss, the Galaxy M56 could still prove enjoyable in day-to-day use.
