MWC 2025: top 5 most unusual smartphones presented at the show

At Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, manufacturers not only unveiled new flagships, but also surprised with concept devices. Some of them look futuristic, others weird, but all of them offer a fresh take on smartphone development.

Triple Bend Smartphone from Infinix

Infinix has revealed a concept for a tri-folding device with three sections. The ZERO Series Mini Tri-Fold folds thanks to a double hinge, turning it from a standard smartphone into a mini tablet. It can be placed vertically for video calls, attached to a bike for navigation, or used as a detachable camera. So far, the device exists only in prototype form.

Tecno has unveiled a smartphone with a record thin body – just 5.75mm. Contrary to expectations, it didn’t affect the autonomy: a 5200 mAh battery is installed inside. The device received a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with 144Hz and a dual 50MP camera. If the model hits the market, it could set a new standard in the ultra-thin smartphone category.

Nubia Focus 2 Ultra camera phone

Nubia has made a bet on mobile photography. The Focus 2 Ultra has a 50MP sensor with an f/1.47 aperture, and a rotating ring on the lens that lets you change zoom and filters manually. Additionally, you can connect a detachable grip, turning the device into a semblance of a professional camera. The smartphone has already been priced at 299 euros, making it a budget alternative to the Xiaomi 15 Ultra.

Smartphone with solar charging from Infinix

The company also showed a concept with perovskite-based solar cells – they’re thinner and more efficient than their silicon counterparts. The smartphone supports MPPT technology to optimize charge, but the solar charging power is limited to 2W. It won’t replace an adapter, but it will come in handy in emergency situations. An optional solar panel in the form of a pouch is also introduced.

An additional solar panel is available.

Doogee V Max Play with projector

Doogee has made a smartphone for outdoor enthusiasts. The device has a built-in 5G projector that can project images up to 100 inches diagonally. The built-in 22,000 mAh battery provides several days of battery life without recharging and also supports reverse charging of other devices. The smartphone is IP68 waterproof and shockproof.

Some of the devices on display, such as the Nubia Focus 2 Ultra, have already received a price tag and are ready to hit the market. Others, such as the Infinix foldable smartphone or the solar-charging model, remain experimental projects. Either way, they demonstrate that innovation in the smartphone world isn’t just about cameras and processors, but also about completely new form factors.
