MWC 2025: Deutsche Telekom is creating an “AI smartphone” with Perplexity

Deutsche Telekom is developing a new voice-controlled smartphone based on artificial intelligence. The device will get support for Perplexity Assistant, as well as a number of AI services including Google Cloud AI, ElevenLabs and Picsart. An official unveiling will take place later this year

The concept of “AI smartphone” was first presented by Deutsche Telekom (parent company of T-Mobile) at MWC 2024. The main feature of the device is the abandonment of familiar apps in favor of full voice control. According to the company, the gadget will be able to book tickets, order a cab and make purchases without having to switch between apps

Some of the features Perplexity Assistant and other AI services will be available not only on the new device, but also on existing smartphones via the MeinMagenta app. In particular, users will be able to utilize Perplexity, an AI search engine that was recently released as an Android app

Although Deutsche Telekom is not yet revealing the device’s specifications, published images show a budget or mid-range smartphone with thick bezels at the top and bottom of the screen. Also noticeable is the pink power button, which may hint at the carrier’s branding

Ii smartphone is scheduled to launch in the second half of 2025. The company will also add some of the capabilities of Google Cloud AI, ElevenLabs, and Picsart to the MeinMagenta app as early as this summer, making them available to owners of other smartphones
