This is what the interchangeable camera unit in the Realme GT 8 Pro will be like

Realme is gearing up to launch its GT 8 series of smartphones in China next week, and the devices will be the brand’s first models with a professional camera setup from Ricoh Imaging. In addition to improved optics, Realme will introduce an unusual modular customization system with interchangeable decorative panels for the camera unit.

The camera unit is attached with two Torx screws on the sides and is held in place by magnets. This allows the module to be quickly replaced — simply bring it up to the case and it will lock into place, leaving only the screws to be reattached. Realme will offer users three designs: square, round and «robot» each with a different material and color scheme.
It’s not yet known whether the modules will be made exclusively by Realme itself or whether the company will open up the option to third-party manufacturers. There’s also the question of whether this design will make it easier to repair the devices in the future.

In addition to the modular camera system, Realme said the older GT 8 Pro model will get a new back panel made of recycled leather with a paper-like texture. The material is resistant to wear and corrosion at a thickness of just 0.02mm.
