Galaxy Z Flip 7 only got UWB support in the South Korean version

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 smartphone has become the first model in the Flip series to support ultra-wideband (UWB), but the feature is only available in one region.

Samsung started equipping its flagship devices with UWB support back in 2021, when the Galaxy S21 lineup was released. Back then, the Galaxy S21+ and Galaxy S21 Ultra models received the ultra-wideband module. At the same time, the company introduced the UWB-enabled Galaxy SmartTag+ tracker, which allowed users to accurately track the tag’s location via the SmartThings app. Since then, UWB has become a standard feature on all Samsung flagships – with the exception of the Galaxy Z Flip series devices.

First UWB support in the Galaxy Z Flip series

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 has become the first device in Samsung’s line of foldable smartphone-book series with an ultra-wideband module. However, support for the technology is only realized in the variant for the South Korean domestic market. We are talking about the model with the number SM-F766N. The information has been confirmed by Samsung’s official website in South Korea, where UWB is listed as a feature of the Galaxy Z Flip 7.

This allows users in South Korea to take full advantage of the technology: pinpoint the location of other devices with UWB modules, including the Galaxy SmartTag+ and Galaxy SmartTag 2, using the SmartThings app.

The Galaxy SmartTag+ and Galaxy SmartTag 2 can be used to pinpoint the exact location of other devices with UWB modules using the SmartThings app.

There will be no UWB in other regions

In all other countries, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will lack the UWB module. The reasons for this decision have not been given yet. There are two possibilities: either the company decided to cut costs, or it was unable to obtain the necessary certifications in other regions.

We can only hope that Samsung will implement UWB support for all versions and all countries in the next generation of the Galaxy Z Flip.
