The foldable iPhone could use Samsung’s most advanced OLED panel yet

Samsung remains the leader in OLED panels for mobile devices, and it’s its display that will reportedly be used in the first foldable iPhone. And the panel is designed on a whole new level of technology – it’s thinner and with virtually no visible crease.

According to insider yeux1122, Samsung Display has created an OLED display that meets Apple’s requirements for brightness, thickness and weight. The key achievement was integrating the touch layer directly into the OLED panel. This reduced its thickness by 19% compared to the panel used in the Galaxy Z Fold.

Samsung has also used new processes to improve both peak and standard screen brightness.

Sources say the updated panel feels like a standard OLED display from a regular “non-skid” smartphone. A similar but not identical version of the display could also appear in the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which is rumored to be the thinnest foldable smartphone on the market.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7, according to the latest leaks, will be just 3.9mm thick when unfolded and 8.9mm thick when folded. In comparison, the special edition Galaxy Z Fold is 4.9mm and 10.6mm thick, respectively.

Apple has reportedly already filed new trademark applications for the foldable iPhone display. The company has traditionally used brand names for its screens, such as Retina, Liquid Retina, Super Retina XDR and others. It’s expected that a similar unique designation will be chosen for the new panel.
