Apple: Foxconn starts iPhone 15 production in India

Sources familiar with the situation say one of Apple’s contractors, Foxconn, has begun manufacturing the iPhone 15 in India. The production in that country comes just weeks after the company launched assembly in China.

Last year, the Cupertino-based tech giant began producing several iPhone models in India, but a few months after Chinese factories began operations. This year, however, Apple is clearly trying to bridge the gap between the two production centers. In March this year, about 7% of the iPhone 14-series was produced in India, and that share is likely to grow with the introduction of the iPhone 15.

There are other factors at play, of course. Foxconn’s local facility depends on imported hardware from other countries, including China, so the supply chain still needs time to adjust and optimize operations. Other suppliers such as Pegatron and Wistron have reportedly sold their factories to Tata Group in India and will begin production of the iPhone 15 soon.
