Yandex Maps learned to build routes taking into account warm transportation stops

The Yandex Maps service has introduced a new feature specially adapted for residents of Russia’s harsh winter regions. Now users can build comfortable routes that pass through heated stops, allowing you to spend less time in the cold waiting for transportation. Such routes are marked with a heated icon in the app.
Heated routes.
Where are comfort routes available?
The feature already works in the following regions:
- Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug (KMAO),
- Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (YNAO),
- Yakutia,
- Chukotka,
- Krasnoyarsk region,
- Omsk region,
- Murmansk region.
A total of more than 600 heated stops are marked on the maps.
How does it work?
To build a comfortable route, Yandex Maps takes into account:
- Historical temperature data,
- Distance to the nearest heated stop,
- Transportation waiting time.
If the system finds a route that will allow more time in the warmth, it will be suggested first. While this route may take a little longer, it provides more protection from the cold. In addition, users can check if heating is available at a particular stop. To do this, just open its card in the app – if the stop is heated, there will be a corresponding note at the top. The new feature makes traveling in harsh winter conditions more comfortable by helping users plan their route efficiently with low temperatures in mind.
