VK Video launches channel format

VK Video is undergoing a major change: the familiar “author communities” are becoming a thing of the past, replaced by channels. From now on, all video content is posted only on behalf of channels, which makes the uploading process easier and more logical. The innovation covers all interfaces of the platform – from mobile apps to the web version.
In the past, authors could upload videos either on their own behalf or on behalf of the community. Now there’s no such choice – posting is done exclusively through author channels. This minimizes posting errors and increases the efficiency of video distribution: videos get full distribution and are more likely to get recommended.
Why VK Video Introduces Channel Format
The innovation is part of a large-scale strategy to improve user experience and develop the platform’s ecosystem. The very concept of “channel” is more familiar to the audience due to similar features on other video services and more accurately reflects the idea – constant publication of video content from one author or team.
“We’re getting rid of ambiguity. The term «community» has been associated with interest groups, not professional video work. A channel is clear, understandable, familiar. In addition, we’ve simplified the launch: now, when you first load the system will immediately offer to create a channel if you don’t already have one,” said Vera Sovetkina, product director for Communities and Author Experience at VK.

Updated interface and help for newbies
The video upload form has also undergone a makeover. The interface has become more concise, with an emphasis on content management and support for new authors. There’s a built-in mechanism to create a channel right when you publish – no additional steps required.
