Threads surpasses 400 million monthly users, closing the gap on X

Meta* reported a new record for social network Threads, with a monthly audience surpassing 400 million. Mark Zuckerberg marked a 50 million user growth since April 2025.
Growth Dynamics in 2025
The last time the company revealed Threads stats was April 30, as part of its Q1 2025 report. At that time, the app had 350 million users, which was already a notable increase from 320 million at the end of January (Q4 2024).
If the pace continues, Threads could add more than 100 million monthly active users in 2025, approaching X’s numbers.
Compared to X
After leaving the exchange, X stopped publishing verifiable statistics, and the available data is impossible to verify. In April 2025, former CEO Linda Iaccarino claimed “nearly 600 million” monthly users, up slightly from 586 million in January.
New features and a change in strategy
- a built-in private messaging system independent of Instagram*
- support for spoiler tags;
- dedicated feed for fediverse;
- text highlighting tool and other improvements;
These innovations show that management is adjusting Threads’ strategy, listening to feedback and trying to make the app more appealing to potential X users.
Management Changes
As of August, Threads’ operational leadership will shift to Connor Hayes, who will report to Adam Mosseri. Experts say this could affect the platform’s future development and growth rate.
