Airbnb has added personal chefs, masseurs and other services to the app

Airbnb has added personal chefs, masseurs and other services to the app

The company is turning its accommodation booking platform into a premium on-demand service.

Airbnb unveiled an updated app that now lets you book personal trainers, massage therapists, private chefs, makeup artists and photographers – either in addition to renting a home or separately. The innovation is part of the company’s strategy to expand beyond short-term rentals.

“People choose hotels for service. People choose Airbnb for space. Now we offer both,” said Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky.

Hotel-style services starting at $50 and no lodging

The additional options will appear in 260 cities at launch. Costs will start from less than $50. Both guests who rent on the platform and those who don’t stay at Airbnb will be able to order services, as the company gradually transforms into a multi-functional travel service.

Users will also have access to an updated «Impressions» tab where they can book customized tours and activities. This feature was first launched in 2016, but has now received a revamped interface and expanded selection.

The «Original» tab and superstar trips

The new tab «Originals» offers unique vacation formats, like beach volleyball with Olympic champion Carol Solberg in Rio de Janeiro or a Sunday afternoon with NFL soccer player Patrick Mahomes.

These offerings reflect the trend toward personalized vacations and the demand for experiences beyond standard tours. According to experts, tourists’ demand for uniqueness is on the rise as more people seek new, customized travel scenarios.
