Snapdragon 8 Elite: Geekbench and other benchmarks confirm significant performance gains

At the recent Snapdragon Summit 2024 held in Hawaii, Qualcomm officially unveiled its new chipset Snapdragon 8 Elite. This is an important event for the company as it is the first time its mobile platform has integrated the customizable Oryon cores that were announced back last year. Qualcomm has kept its promise to introduce Oryon in 2024, and now the first test results show just how significant the improvements are.

Declared improvements and test results

Qualcomm has claimed a 45% performance boost in both single-core and multi-core computing over previous models. Various media outlets have already been able to test the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset on reference devices provided by the company, using Geekbench and other popular benchmarks. The results show that the new generation of chipset is really impressive.

The reference devices from Qualcomm ran on Oryon cores with a maximum clock speed of 4.32GHz, and were equipped with 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. Although Qualcomm emphasizes that the chipsets are designed to improve the user experience rather than achieve high benchmark scores, the results on benchmarks were quite impressive.

The Geekbench test on a device with Snapdragon 8 Elite showed the following results: 3171 points in the single-core test and 10289 points in the multi-core test. In comparison, Galaxy S24 Ultra on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scored 2238 and 6873 points respectively. That’s an impressive jump in performance that will be felt in real-world conditions.

On AnTuTu s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset scored 3,015,087 points, while the previous generation achieved around 1,766,906 points on the same Galaxy S24 Ultra. Qualcomm noted that their new chipset has consistently scored over 3 million points in this test.

In the graphics test 3DMark Wild Life Extreme the Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered device scored 7043 points compared to 4931 points on the Galaxy S24. This confirms that the new chipset significantly outperforms its predecessor in graphics-related tasks.

How will this affect real-world performance?”

It’s not yet known whether Snapdragon 8 Elite-based devices will use the core at maximum frequencies in real-world conditions, as this could lead to increased power consumption. It will also be important to evaluate the performance per watt when the devices hit the market. Nevertheless, it is clear that the new chipset delivers significantly better performance, and this could make the Galaxy S25 series expected with this chipset the best in its class.
