Samsung unveiled a new RAM chip – LPDDR6

Samsung, the world’s largest memory chip maker, has unveiled its most advanced DRAM chip for mobile devices — LPDDR6. The new memory offers higher performance and lower power consumption than the previous generation LPDDR5X and is likely to appear in future flagships such as the Galaxy S26 series.

Ahead of CES 2026 in January, Samsung announced that its LPDDR6 chip has won the 2026 Innovation Award in the «Mobile Devices, Accessories and Apps» category. The new memory is created using Samsung Foundry’s 12nm process and offers faster data transfer rates and improved power efficiency compared to the 8.5Gbps LPDDR5X chips currently in use.

Samsung’s LPDDR6 chip is designed to deliver higher data rates and improved power efficiency.

LPDDR6 supports data transfer rates of up to 10.7 Gbps and utilizes advanced I/O to increase throughput. Data protection is enhanced to reduce the risk of data falling into the wrong hands.

Samsung claims the new memory is 21% more power efficient than LPDDR5X thanks to its intelligent dynamic power management system. This makes LPDDR6 the optimal solution for flagship devices capable of performing artificial intelligence tasks and serving as edge computing nodes.

LPDDR6 is expected to be used in next-generation smartphones, including the Galaxy S26 series, which will also get fast UFS 4.1 memory. The new processor, memory and storage working together will provide a significant speed boost over previous models.

Besides Samsung, the new LPDDR6 chips could appear in devices from other brands — laptops and smartphones expected to be released in 2026.
