One of the key goals of Donald Trump’s presidency has been to bring manufacturing back to U.S. soil. While opinions are divided on the appropriateness of such a move, the president himself has been very clear: either move production to America or pay higher duties.

It looks like the biggest tech companies are starting to heed that call. Nvidia has unveiled its first U.S.-made Blackwell chip, which could be the start of a new phase in the U.S. semiconductor industry.

In an official press release, Nvidia said it has partnered with TSMC to manufacture the first Blackwell wafer in the US. Company CEO Jensen Huang personally signed the wafer and noted the significance of the milestone:

The company’s CEO Jensen Huang personally signed the wafer and noted the importance of the event.

«This is a historic moment for many reasons. For the first time in modern American history, the world’s most important chip is being manufactured here in the United States at TSMC’s advanced manufacturing facility. It is the fulfillment of President Trump’s vision — reindustrialization, bringing manufacturing back, creating jobs. But most importantly — it’s the revitalization of a key industry on which the technological future of the entire world depends».

And it’s the revitalization of a key industry on which the technological future of the entire world depends.

Ray Chuang, CEO of TSMC Arizona, also emphasized the significance of the collaboration:

«The fact that we went from building a fab in Arizona to producing the first Nvidia Blackwell chip made in the U.S. in just a few years demonstrates the best of TSMC. This success is made possible by our thirty-year partnership with Nvidia, our commitment to technological advancement, and the dedication of our employees.

Nvidia said moving manufacturing to the U.S. «paves the way for America’s sustained leadership in artificial intelligence». If the company succeeds in developing its U.S. facilities, the country could become the world’s AI center — both in terms of software and hardware solutions.

The intrigue remains, however: will AMD be able to outperform Blackwell in performance, as it has previously claimed? Time will tell, but one thing is clear right now &#8212 Nvidia has taken a major step in the history of American tech manufacturing.
