New Siri in danger of failure – Inside Apple doubts Apple Intelligence’s success

Since Apple Intelligence was announced at WWDC 2024, iPhone users have been eagerly awaiting an updated version of the Siri voice assistant. After many delays, the release of the new Siri is scheduled for early next year — unless, of course, there are further problems. However, as it turns out, it’s worth the wait without much optimism.

Insider Mark Gurman reported some disturbing news: there are already doubts inside Apple about the performance of the new Siri. This is an extremely unpleasant signal, especially against the backdrop that competitors — such as the Samsung Galaxy S25 and Google Pixel 10 — are far ahead in the field of artificial intelligence, relying on Google’s Gemini technology.

Even Chinese manufacturers, including Xiaomi, are using customized versions of current AI models that perform noticeably better than what the iPhone 17 offers.

Apple has delayed the launch of a new Siri for too long, and Apple Intelligence’s current features are clearly losing out to competitors. Another delay could hit iPhone sales, and the company risks seeing interest in the flagship wane in just a few months.

Apple has been rumored to be considering buying third-party AI companies, including Perplexity AI, and hasn’t ruled out a partnership with Google. At the moment, many of Apple Intelligence’s capabilities depend on ChatGPT, and Apple’s attempts to replace it with its own solution have so far been unsuccessful.

Apple’s attempts to replace it with its own solution have been unsuccessful.

The company faces the choice of either doubling down on resources to refine Siri or outsourcing its development to third-party developers. Apple was too late to get on the «artificial intelligence train» and now it’s paying the price for that slowness.

Many analysts say Apple needs to release the new Siri as planned, even if it isn’t perfect yet. The company no longer has time to wait to catch up with Google’s Gemini. Siri has been criticized for years, and now Apple just has to show some progress, even if it’s just the first step on the long road to a true smart assistant.
