MediaTek Dimensity 9500 shone in Geekbench

MediaTek is preparing to release a new flagship mobile chipset, supposedly dubbed the Dimensity 9500. It made its first appearance in the Geekbench database the other day under the model number MT6993, revealing key architecture and performance specs.

The Dimensity 9500 architecture: one Travis supercore and a new generation A7

According to a leak from well-known insider Digital Chat Station, the chip’s configuration includes a single 3.23GHz super-powered Travis core, three 3.03GHz Alto performance cores, and four 2.23GHz energy-efficient Gelas cores. This is the first MediaTek chipset built entirely on the new SME-enabled Cortex-X9 architecture. The younger Gelas cores are said to be based on the new generation of A7 cores.

In contrast to the previous generation Dimensity 9400, which utilized Cortex-X4, the new chip aims to increase processing power while maintaining energy efficiency. It is manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm N3P process.

New Immortalis-Drage graphics and outlook according to AnTuTu

Dimensity 9500 features a Mali-G1 Ultra MC12 graphics gas pedal built on the Immortalis-Drage architecture. Improved ray tracing and power optimization are promised. However, in the current version, the GPU runs at only 1MHz, which limits the Geekbench benchmark (15,717 points). MediaTek plans to finalize the graphics tuning as early as next month. The chip is expected to break the 4 million point mark in AnTuTu.

Support for LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.1 storage

The new flagship from MediaTek supports up to 4 channels of LPDDR5X RAM with up to 10,667 Mbps of bandwidth, as well as UFS 4.1 storage with a 4-link interface. There is 16MB of L3 cache and 10MB of system cache, which should have a positive impact on multitasking and processing speeds.

Announced in September, Vivo and OPPO

The Dimensity 9500 is expected to be officially unveiled in September. According to rumors, the first smartphones based on it will be devices from the Vivo X300 and Oppo Find X9 series.
