Xiaomi accelerates the launch of its second YU7 electric car

After the successful debut of the SU7 sedan, Xiaomi is wasting no time. The company has officially confirmed that the launch of its second electric car, the YU7 crossover, will take place earlier than planned – not in July as expected, but as early as the end of June. The decision to speed up the launch was announced personally by CEO Lei Jun on the Weibo platform.

The new electric car from Xiaomi is coming out ahead of schedule

According to the company’s CEO, preparations are well underway, “We are preparing, see you at the end of the month!” – he wrote. The YU7 demo models can already be found in 317 Xiaomi stores in 86 cities across China. In this way, the brand is trying to create maximum awareness before the official launch.

So far, Xiaomi is trying to create a lot of awareness before the official launch.

Consumer interest is higher than SU7

The strategy appears to be bearing fruit. As Xiaomi president Lu Weibin noted, the number of prepaid applications for the YU7 at the end of May was three times higher than the SU7 during the same period. That suggests a high level of anticipation from consumers and a potentially successful sales launch.

Price is still under a veil of secrecy

Despite an active campaign, Xiaomi is keeping quiet about the price of the new crossover for now. Lei Jun has already managed to deny popular rumors – such as the 235,900 yuan (€29,600) price tag – and said that the difference with the SU7 (from 215,900 yuan, or about €26,810) “won’t be anywhere near 20,000 yuan.” The final price tag will be announced just a day or two before release.

The SU7 Legacy: high expectations

The company’s first electric car, the SU7, has been a success, with sales consistently exceeding 20,000 units per month for eight months. With its affordable price, attractive design and decent performance, Xiaomi has quickly made a name for itself in the electric car world.

Key step toward profitability

Xiaomi’s goal is to take the automotive division to profitability as early as the second half of 2025. The success of the YU7 will play a key role in achieving this goal. There’s not much time left to see if Xiaomi manages to hit the mark again.
