Google has unveiled an updated version of its Titan security key with several new features that will improve the handling of access keys and passwords and increase the security of user accounts.
The new version of the USB accessory now includes support for FIDO 2 specifications, which allows account logins without a password, as well as the ability to store up to 250 keys. As before, the device is offered in two variants: a USB Type-C connector and a USB Type-A connector. Both versions also feature an NFC chip that lets you use it to unlock accounts on compatible smartphones.
In the initial setup process, users will be prompted to create a key and save it to Titan instead of their own password. A PIN will also be required, which can be used in conjunction with the security key to unlock the Google account. The accessory is compatible with any supported account and can be used as a two-factor authentication device alongside traditional authentication methods.
The updated Google Titan is available now on the Google Store in the US, priced at $30 ($2,673) and $35 ($3,119) for the USB Type-A and USB Type-C versions, respectively.
