CES 2025: AMD announces new processors for PCs and notebooks

Amd AMD unveiled updates to its processor and graphics solutions at CES 2025, and looked ahead to the future with a new generation of FSR upscaling technology.

Amdm’s new generation of FSR upscaling technology is now available.

New Ryzen 9000s with 3D V-cache

AMD has announced two new Ryzen 9000 series desktop processors, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D. These models are enhanced versions of the 9950X and 9900X, but with 3D V-cache technology, which increases cache size and delivers faster gaming performance.

According to AMD’s claims, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D is 8% faster than the previous generation 7950X3D and 20% faster than the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K in gaming. However, for pure gaming tasks, AMD recommends considering the 9800X3D if the additional cores of the 9950X3D are not a necessity.

Ryzen Z2 for portable gaming PCs

The updated Ryzen Z2 series is aimed at portable gaming devices such as the ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go. There are three models in the lineup:

  • Ryzen Z2 Extreme is the flagship with 8 cores of Zen 5 and Zen 5c, and RDNA 3.5 graphics with 16 graphics cores.
  • Ryzen Z2 is actually a renamed version of the Ryzen Z1 Extreme, featuring 8 cores of Zen 4 and 12 RDNA 3 graphics cores.
  • Ryzen Z2 Go is the most affordable model with 4 Zen 3+ cores and RDNA 2 graphics with 12 graphics cores.

The disparity in architectures and features between these models under the same brand has mixed feelings, but that’s typical of AMD’s mobile division.
