What Russians played on May holidays – M.Video-Eldorado survey

May 6, 2025 – Group of Companies M.Video-Eldorado together with brand-media M.Click conducted a thematic survey among gamers to find out which video games were most popular among Russians during the long May weekend. The results showed that: almost every second survey participant planned to devote the holidays to video games.
Online projects and single-player hits: top trends for May
Of the more than 1,100 users surveyed 569 people (49.5%) described themselves as active gamers. Another 14% admitted that they don’t play regularly, but they don’t mind devoting time to gaming on holidays. A total of 36.26% of respondents said they don’t play games at all.
Online gaming was the most popular, with 28.28% of respondents voting for it. Users attributed this to the fact that they don’t have enough time for online projects on a typical weekday, while a long weekend is the perfect excuse to dive into MMOs, shooters and other online formats.
In second place are legendary single-player titles. Some 18.08% of gamers chose games like The Witcher 3, Mass Effect and other “timeless” stories that are comfortable to go through at a personal pace.

A selection of uncategorized games, from GTA and Roblox to Honkai and Subnautica
Almost 20% of respondents chose the “Other” option and listed their favorite titels. These include GTA V and San Andreas, Minecraft, Roblox, CS 2, The Sims, Skyrim AE, Subnautica and Honkai: Star Rail. Such a spread speaks to the high game diversity of the audience – from old-school hits to current free-to-play and sandboxes.
New products are interesting, but without hype
Fresh releases also found their audience: 14.87% of gamers intended to try Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Split Fiction, Assassin’s Creed Shadows and The Last of Us Part II Remastered over the holidays. But the most recent releases, specially timed for May, have not attracted much attention so far – they were chosen by only 2.62% of participants.
PCs lead, smartphones catch up
The survey also touched on the choice of gaming platforms. As expected, PC remains the top choicePC was preferred by 66.17% of participants. In second place were smartphones and portable consoles (17.07%). PlayStation confidently holds the third place with the result 12.87%. But Xbox and Nintendo Switch gained only 2.4% and 1.5% respectively.
The Most Anticipated Games of 2025
Users were also asked about the most anticipated games of the year. The leading option was “Other” (43.43%), with GTA VI, Subnautica 2, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Silent Hill F and other ambitious titles mentioned most often. In second and third place are Mafia: The Old Country (22.22%) and DOOM: The Dark Ages (21.89%) respectively.
It’s interesting that 13% of survey participants admitted that they don’t wait for new releases at all and prefer to play familiar and trusted games.
