Insiders claim PlayStation 6 and new Xbox will be released in 2027

It looks like the next console war could be as soon as two years from now. Reliable insider KeplerL2, who has accurately predicted AMD device specs many times before, claimed on the NeoGAF forum that Sony is planning to release the PlayStation 6 in 2027.
In a discussion of a recent Sony and AMD video, where PlayStation CTO Mark Cerny mentioned that new technology will appear «in the next console generation in a few years», users began arguing about the PS6’s release date. One participant speculated that it was 2028, but KeplerL2 responded by saying that the release is exactly scheduled for 2027 — unless, of course, there are unforeseen delays.
On the same day, another prominent insider, Moore’s Law is Dead (MLID), posted a video showing off the AMD Magnus APU chip, which he said would be the foundation of the next-generation Xbox. Microsoft is also targeting a 2027 launch for the new console, he said.
«The console is targeting a release in 2027» — he said, adding that sources inside the company confirm those plans. MLID clarified that the new Xbox will likely be a hybrid of console and PC, not just another generation of the classic console.
He noted that the APU of the new Xbox will be more powerful than that of the PS6, but also more expensive to produce — due to its large size, use of bridge dies technology and increased RAM. This will allow the device to not only run Xbox games, but also partially compete with gaming PCs.
MLID has also previously claimed that Sony is preparing a portable version of the PlayStation 6 with TV connectivity — similar to the Nintendo Switch.
Neither Sony nor Microsoft have yet to reveal official details about their new consoles, but both companies have confirmed that they are partnering with AMD and are already working on next-generation systems.
