CD Projekt has revealed plans for a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, codenamed Project Orion. Last September, the company announced that Phantom Liberty would be the only expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, but that upon its release, development on Project Orion would begin at CD Projekt’s new studio, CD Projekt Red North America.
Phantom Liberty came out in late September, and at an investor presentation Thursday, CD Projekt chief creative officer Adam Badowski talked about the status of «Orion» and the company’s plans for the game over the next year.
This project is now at the conceptual design level, and will be developed by a team of veterans who were responsible for finalizing Cyberpunk 2077 and developing Phantom Liberty.

We’ll be working in North America, in Vancouver and Boston, the team leadership is already there. And at the end of 2024 we will be working with teams of a few dozen people, with half of the developers in the northern US and the other half — in Poland as a target.

Earlier in the presentation, CD Projekt CEO Adam Kiczynski said that Cyberpunk 2077 has already sold 25 million copies since its release in December 2020, meaning the game is selling «much faster» than The Witcher 3 did upon release.
