Samsung is actively developing the Galaxy Ring

The company is also thinking about AR and VR capabilities with the «smart» ring. One ring to control the rest… of the gadgets.

Patent documents discovered some time ago indicate that Samsung is working on a «smart» ring. There’s no word yet on the alleged Galaxy Ring, but now another news outlet has revealed a few apparent details.
A few details have been revealed.
Korean website The Elec has reported that Samsung has indeed begun «advanced development» of the Galaxy Ring. According to the publication, the development of the printed circuit board (PCB) used in the «smart» ring is being handled by Meiko, a Japanese company.

The timeline for the Galaxy Ring to start mass production, according to the news site, has not yet been determined. Thus, no one can yet speculate when exactly the «smart» ring will debut.
Nevertheless, Samsung has also reportedly filed a patent application for a smart ring that will work with XR headsets/glasses. The patent suggests that XR devices will be able to use the smart ring to get positional information about fingers and hands. This could open up the ability to control XR devices with fingers, reducing the need for glasses and headsets with cameras and other sensors to track hand position.
The patent also suggests that the smart ring could work with XR devices to capture hand position information.
This is just a patent for now, and there’s no guarantee it will see the light of day. However, Samsung confirmed earlier this year that it is indeed working on an XR headset with Qualcomm and Google, so it’s theoretically possible that we could see the integration of «smart ring» into that headset. However, earlier this month it was reported that the device’s release had been delayed by six months.
