The Orange Pi company is preparing to launch a new product — a portable gaming console called Neo. This device promises to be a serious competitor for gamers and Gabe Newell’s Steam Deck products, as it also features similar trackpads.

Although the Orange Pi Neo hasn’t been officially unveiled yet, there’s already plenty of information about it. It’s one of the most compact models in its class, measuring 25.9×10.7×1.9 cm. The device will be equipped with a 7-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels and an aspect ratio of 16:10. The screen will have a refresh rate of 120Hz and brightness will reach 500 nits.

The set-top box will be powered by an eight-core AMD Ryzen 7 7840U processor with Zen4 cores and RDNA3 graphics. Its RAM will be 16GB or 32GB (dual-channel LPDDR5-7500). For storage there is a PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 drive with 512 GB to 2 TB of storage. A 50Wh battery provides battery life.

The renders show that the console will have traditional controls, including two asymmetrical sticks, a crossbar, AXYB buttons, and cursors on top. Unusual features include a pair of small touchpads on each side that will help with certain games specifically designed for PCs.

The operating system will be Manjaro Linux with a custom user interface that will provide easy control of the game library.

There is no information yet on the release date and price of the Orange Pi Neo.
