ASUS unveiled the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X handheld gaming consoles
By ForGeeks Assus has officially unveiled two new handheld gaming consoles, the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, created in partnership with Xbox. These devices run Windows and may finally solve many of the problems that other Windows-based handheld consoles have been experiencing.

As far as specs go, both models feature a 7-inch IPS screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1080p resolution and Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The base version of the ROG Xbox Ally features an AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor based on RDNA 2 architecture. The device features a 60Wh battery, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of internal storage, and two USB-C ports (USB 3.2 Gen 2 and DisplayPort 2.1 support).
The ROG Xbox Ally X model, the more advanced version, features a Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip that includes 24GB of RAM, 1TB of internal storage, and a USB-C port with support for USB 4.0 and Thunderbolt 4. The more expensive version also has an 80Wh battery. Both models support memory expansion via a microSD slot, M.2 2280 removable SSDs, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, and up to 65W charging.
Benefits and Features
The main strength of these devices is software optimization. While both consoles run Windows, they’re primarily designed to function fully as a portable Xbox console. This means that the device feels more like a portable Xbox gaming console.
The new software solutions minimize background system activity: turning off the desktop wallpaper, taskbar and some Windows features frees up to 2GB of RAM, which improves gaming performance and energy efficiency. There’s also a dedicated Xbox button to quickly bring up the Game Panel via ASUS Armory Crate.
Additional improvements include an optimized lock screen and task switcher for controlling the system with a controller. In addition, the handheld console provides access to the largest game library, Steam, making it a one-stop shop for gamers.
