Apple has delayed the release of the smart hub with a screen due to Siri issues

In his weekly report, analyst Mark Gurman said that Apple had originally planned to unveil the Smart Hub with Screen (also known as the HomePod with Display) back in March 2024. However, the device’s launch was postponed indefinitely due to a delay in the Siri personalized features on which its functionality depends.

The latest reports suggest the release could take place in the first half of 2025. But as Gurman notes in his new issue of the Power On newsletter, there’s another reason for the delay: the hub requires an updated version of App Intents, a framework that will allow Siri to more accurately control apps via voice commands. Development of that technology is also lagging, leaving the project in limbo for the time being.
What’s known about the upcoming device?
- Square display with a 6-7 inch diagonal
- A18 chip with support for Apple Intelligence
- Possible to wall mount or connect to a speaker
- Functions for Smart Home control, FaceTime calls and even Home Security (with optional Apple camera)
When to expect a release?
In March, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that mass production of the device would begin in the third quarter of 2025. However, given the current delays with Siri and App Intents, that timeline could be revised.
