Apple Original Films’ “F1,” starring Brad Pitt, is on track to become the company’s most successful theatrical release to date.

A record among Apple movies and a massive campaign

The movie “F1,” starring Brad Pitt as a race car driver who returns to the world of Formula One after 30 years, was released in 3,661 theaters. It surpassed Apple’s previous box office record, Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which grossed $23.2 million in its first weekend in 2023.

Film “F1,” which stars Brad Pitt as a race car driver returning to the world of Formula One after 30 years, was released in 3,661 theaters.

The company heavily promoted the project. Apple used an immersive, haptic trailer on the iPhone as part of its ad campaign and even placed ads inside the Wallet app, which sparked controversy among users.

Audience, Competitors, and Global Expectations

“F1” features a high level of interest from the 13-24 year old audience, which is atypical for racing films traditionally aimed at an older audience. The film’s trailer has racked up 845 million views on TikTok, YouTube, Facebook*, X and Instagram* – 62% more than the average for action-adventure movies.

Simultaneously with “F1,” two other big releases hit theaters: Sony’s horror sequel “28 Years Later,” which is expected to gross $40 million, and Disney’s animated “Elio,” with a projected $31.4 million.

According to early estimates, “F1” could gross $115 million worldwide in its first weekend. The success of the project will encourage Apple to further develop its theatrical lineup and actively participate in the distribution of its own films.
