In the past weekend, short films that cinemas used for hidden screenings of films without the permission of the rights holders brought in a total of 90.6 million rubles, according to the publication «Booker’s Bulletin». In many cases, such screenings masked screenings of the new blockbuster from Marvel — «Spider-Man: Web of universes». Thus, the latest installment of Spider-Man’s adventures became the leader of the Russian box office, surpassing the films «Translator» (59.7 million rubles) and «Challenge» (41.9 million rubles).

“Spider-Man is a well-known big franchise. The film overtakes “The Interpreter” because the latter is a rather specific picture by Guy Ritchie about Afghanistan, American soldiers. That result puts the film in seventh place among 2023 movies, and it has a chance to surpass the grosses of «The Little Mermaid» ($425 million). According to a source in the film industry, the new «Spider-Man» has every chance to beat the action movie «John Wick 4» at the Russian box office. At the same time, Dmitry Litvinov, publisher of «Booker’s Bulletin» notes that «John Wick» was actively screened in major cinema chains, not all of which conduct «gray» showings of the movie «Spider-Man».
