The first touchscreen MacBook Pro could come out in 2026

Apple has resisted the idea of touchscreens in Macs for years, but it looks like it’s ready to change its stance. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the company plans to release the first MacBook Pro with an OLED display and touchscreen support as early as late 2026 — early 2027.

From Touch Bar to Full Sensor
So far, Apple’s closest thing to touch input has been Touch Bar — a narrow touchpad above the keyboard that first appeared in 2016. It offered customizable controls but never became a full-fledged replacement for physical keys. In 2023, with the 13-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M2 chip, the company finally abandoned the Touch Bar.
Now it’s talking about a radical change — introducing a full-fledged touchscreen display.
Plans for new generations of MacBook
- In 2025, the MacBook Pro based on the M5 is expected
- these will be followed by models with OLED screens and the M6 chip, which may gain sensor support.
Why it makes sense for Apple
Phones and iPads have long accustomed users to gestures and taps, while Macs are still tied to a keyboard and trackpad. For the younger generation, this seems anachronistic — after all, they expect responsiveness from any screen. Touch will bring the MacBook closer to the iPad and narrow the gap between the two device lines.
