Opel has revealed the flagship Grandland Electric AWD SUV

Opel has quietly unveiled the new flagship in its lineup, the Grandland Electric AWD family crossover. Without any big announcements, it immediately became the brand’s most powerful vehicle, surpassing even the “sporty” GSe versions in terms of power and dynamics.

The model gets a twin-motor powertrain and all-wheel drive, as well as a long list of engineering tweaks that make it competitive in the electric SUV market.

The most powerful Opel in history

The new car develops 321 hp and 509 N-m of torque. The front axle is powered by a 210-horsepower electric motor, while the rear axle is powered by an additional 111 hp unit. The car accelerates from a standing start to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds, which is noticeably faster than all current Opel models, including the GSe variants.

Driving Modes and Finalized Chassis

The driver has access to Eco, Normal, Sport and special AWD modes. They change the response of the powertrain, steering and stabilization systems. The suspension has proprietary shock absorbers with frequency-dependent damping characteristics, as well as special springs and stabilizer bars. The engineers’ goal is to combine everyday comfort with confident behavior on twisty roads.

500 km of range and fast charging

A 73 kWh battery pack is installed in the floor of the crossover. Based on the WLTP methodology, the range reaches 500 kilometers, which puts the model on par with its leading classmates. Details on charging time and power have not been disclosed, but compatibility with DC fast terminals is expected.

Design with a focus on aerodynamics

The top version’s exterior differences are understated: more aggressive bumper covers with carbon fiber accents, two-tone 20-inch wheels and optimized air ducts. The drag coefficient has been reduced to 0.278 Cd – the best in the Grandland range.

The mystery of the missing GSe nameplate

The most intriguing detail was exactly the one that wasn’t there: Opel didn’t label its most powerful car with the GSe badge. This seems strange, because the previous Grandland GSe, being a less powerful hybrid with 296 hp, carried such a nameplate. The reasons for abandoning the sporty branding remain a mystery, but the crossover itself has already proven that it can set a new tone without the extra letters on the stern.
