Skoda has unveiled the Peaq, its first large seven-seat electric SUV

Skoda has finally chosen a name for its biggest and most ambitious project yet. The brand’s new flagship electric vehicle will be called the Peaq. This large electric SUV will be on European roads by the summer of 2026 and will be the new pinnacle of Skoda’s model range. For large families looking to move away from gasoline and diesel, the Peaq could be just the car that has long been missing.

The Peaq will be Skoda’s first ever all-electric seven-seat SUV. Previously, buyers who wanted three rows of seats had to opt for models with internal combustion engines. Now the situation is changing: the novelty is close to the Kodiaq in terms of practicality, but instead of an internal combustion engine it uses a quiet electric powertrain.

The production Peaq is based on the Vision 7S concept unveiled in 2022. The production version will largely retain its exterior styling. Skoda attributes the car’s design to the new Modern Solid — massive, angular and visually strong. Instead of the usual grille, a sleek Tech Deck front fascia is used, giving the car a modern and technologically advanced look.

The signature feature will be the T-shaped light elements at the front and rear. Recessed door handles improve aerodynamics and have a positive effect on range. So far Skoda is limited to teasers and darkened images, but camouflaged prototypes spotted at the Nürburgring already give an idea of the dimensions and confident appearance of the future flagship.

The Skoda Peaq will be about 5 meters long, making it a very large vehicle by European standards. Such dimensions allow for three full rows of seats inside and comfortable space for seven passengers — a key consideration for family shoppers.

The car is built on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, which is already used in the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, ID.7 and Skoda Enyaq. This makes it easier to predict the model’s performance and helps keep costs under control.

The Vision 7S concept was equipped with an 89 kWh battery, and the production Peaq is expected to get a similar battery. The estimated range is —around 600 kilometers on the WLTP cycle, which looks pretty solid for such a large SUV.

The top version is likely to be equipped with two electric motors and all-wheel drive. Power of such modification is estimated at about 250 kW (about 340 hp), which is more than enough for confident overtaking and long trips. A more affordable version with a single motor and rear-wheel drive is also expected, with a focus on maximum range and a more attractive price.

The market for large electric SUVs is becoming increasingly competitive. The Skoda Peaq will have to compete with the likes of the Kia EV9 and Volvo EX90. Although the Peaq will be the most expensive car in Skoda’s history, the company plans to maintain its reputation as the «smart choice» and offer a better balance of price, space and performance.

If Skoda manages to offer comparable levels of comfort, range and technology at a lower price, the Peaq could become a serious player in the large family electric car segment and take some buyers away from more premium rivals.
