Spy photos of the Aston Martin Vantage Volante show off the new design

It’s no surprise that the updated Aston Martin Vantage has been around for nearly half a century. These spy photos show the Volante convertible undergoing testing in thin camouflage. And that thin camouflage gives us a good look at how the sports car has changed.
The changes appear to be mainly to the front of the Vantage. The grille is now narrower and rather taller. Along with the revised grille, the headlights are also narrower and swept further up the fenders. This creates a retro effect, reminiscent of the days when Aston still had round headlamps with a sealed beam.

Otherwise, the car looks largely unchanged. The only detail we noticed — is a pair of vents on either side of the rear bumper. Given that, we can assume that not much has changed under the skin. The car will undoubtedly retain AMG’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 and eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, though it’s possible that the 503 hp and 505 lb-ft of torque will be boosted by the upgrade. We don’t expect the V12 version to continue, however, as it was a strictly limited edition.
The V12 version is not expected to continue, however.
We also expect an interior upgrade, though these photos don’t show it. With the DB12, the interior has been completely redesigned, including a new infotainment system instead of the one borrowed from Mercedes. Similar changes seem appropriate for the more compact Vantage.

We’re willing to bet that the Vantage’s changes will be revealed within the year. This prototype looks very close to production and is virtually uncovered by camouflage.
