MAN begins a new era of electric trucks

MAN begins a new era of electric trucks

Today MAN Truck & Bus officially enters the era of electric transportation by starting deliveries of its all-electric heavy-duty trucks. The handover of the first eTGX with a payload of 40 tons to the DRÄXLMAIER Group took place in Leipzig. This electric truck will be used to transport the batteries for the Porsche Macan Electric Porsche Macan to the Porsche plant in Leipzig, all with zero emissions.

A new era for MAN and the first step towards a green future

Alexander Vlaskamp, CEO of MAN, said: “This is a major milestone in the history of our company. MAN introduced the first diesel truck 100 years ago, and now we are starting a new electric era. Our first electric truck is going to DRÄXLMAIER, and we are very happy about this trust. After many years of development and tens of thousands of kilometers of test drives, we are finally getting started.”

In the future, the MAN eTGX will transport battery modules for the DRÄXLMAIER to the Porsche plant using renewable energy to be generated on the DRÄXLMAIER site.

“This is an example of a true electric success story,” Vlaskamp added.

Partner testimonials: sustainable logistics

Albrecht Reimold, member of the Executive Board of Porsche, emphasized the significance of this initiative: “We are delighted that the supply for Macan production in Leipzig now includes an innovative electric truck from MAN. The MAN eTGX proves that even large components such as battery modules can be transported in large quantities using electric vehicles.”

.

Felix Klimas, head of supply chain management DRÄXLMAIER, said the use of eTruck is in line with the company’s commitment to making logistics more sustainable: “We are ensuring the full electrification of deliveries for our customer and reaffirming our commitment to sustainable and future-oriented logistics processes.”

Karsten Wilhelm, plant manager DRÄXLMAIER in Leipzig, added: “We are proud to be making customer deliveries with an electric truck in the future. This is a direct contribution to more sustainable logistics processes.”

An important element of the collaboration is that DRÄXLMAIER is not buying the eTruck directly. Business Fleet Services (BFS), the largest commercial vehicle rental company MAN in Europe, is buying the truck and leasing it to Spedition Elflein, which will operate the vehicle.

Jan Plininger, Managing Director of BFS, said: “We are proud to be part of this important milestone and to enter the new electric era together with MAN and our customers. With the acquisition of the first MAN eTGX, we are reaffirming our role as a leader in sustainable mobility solutions for the future.”

Unique features of the MAN eTGX

MAN eTGX, which will be used by DRÄXLMAIER, is equipped with an engine rated at 450 hp (330 kW) and a battery of 534 kWh with the option of using 480 kWh from six battery packs. The truck supports charging of up to 375 kWh via CCS, and also features a low fifth wheel height, allowing trailers with interior heights of up to three meters to be transported. This is particularly relevant for the automotive industry, where lightweight but bulky parts often need to be transported.

Thanks to its short wheelbase, the eTGX is compatible with various types of trailers, making it a versatile transportation solution.

Full lineup and future plans

The most powerful version MAN eTruck has 544 hp (400 kW) and can travel up to 650 km without recharging if equipped with a seventh battery, which will be available in the future. The eTGX and eTGS support the Megawatt Charging Standard (MCS), which will allow the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in just half an hour -a great solution for long-haul transportation.

Today MAN has already received more than 2,500 orders and inquiries on eTruck. “We now have a complete portfolio of electric trucks from 12 to 50 tons. We expect about half of all our trucks to be electric by 2030,”  – addedFriedrich Baumann, sales director ofMAN.
