Honda prepares to launch Super One sales
Honda is gearing up to start sales in Japan in the coming weeks of the sporty Super One kei car – a fully electric version of the N-One e:. The new model features a Boost mode for short bursts of extra motor power, digital sound effects that mimic an internal combustion engine and gear changes, a firmer suspension setup, widened track and fenders, plus exclusive 15-inch alloy wheels.
This isn’t just a cosmetic upgrade: Honda is clearly aiming to turn its compact urban EV into a product for drivers seeking a thrill in a segment where size and regulations heavily restrict engineering options.
How the Super One differs from the N-One e:
- Boost mode activates increased power from the traction electric motor;
- Digital simulation of engine sound and gear shifts built into the onboard system firmware;
- Stiffer suspension tuned for sportier handling;
- Widened track and flared fenders for a more aggressive stance;
- Exclusive-design 15-inch alloy wheels.
The Super One prototype was unveiled in October 2025; now Honda has released the first official photos of the production model and is prepping for its commercial launch. Exact specs and pricing details have yet to be disclosed.
Context: Japan’s kei car market remains a hotbed of experimentation – manufacturers like Suzuki, Daihatsu, and Toyota are actively switching models to electric and tweaking styling and add-ons to boost appeal and profit margins. For consumers, this means more choice but potentially higher prices compared to standard city cars.
Looking ahead, the Super One could carve out a niche among younger drivers and enthusiasts willing to pay a premium for image and driving excitement in a compact package. Whether Honda will spark a new “sporty kei EV” subcategory or this is a short-term marketing move will depend on sales and pricing at launch.
