WhatsApp is testing a message reminder feature

WhatsApp is testing a message reminder feature

The beta version of WhatsApp for Android has a new feature that allows you to set reminders for specific messages. This will help users who often put off replying “for later” but end up forgetting about it altogether.

The reminder can be set manually

According to WABetaInfo, the new feature allows the user to highlight a message, select “Remind Later” and set one of the presets: after 2, 8 or 24 hours. A custom timer is also available.

After setting a reminder, a bell icon appears in the corner of the message. When the set time expires, WhatsApp sends a notification labeled “🔔 Reminder” that displays the message text, sender, and a brief preview (including multimedia content, if available).

WhatsApp develops and proactive reminders

In addition to manual setup, WhatsApp is testing an automatic notification mechanism. The app will remind about unread messages from contacts with whom the user communicates most frequently. This could be useful for those who have multiple conversations in parallel and accidentally miss important messages.

There’s no official launch date for the new feature yet. It’s also unknown when testing will begin on the iOS version.
