Instagram* has finally launched a full-fledged iPad app

Now iPad owners can use Instagram* natively and scroll through the feed on the big screen.

Apple released the iPad back in 2010, and Instagram* appeared on the App Store shortly after, rapidly gaining popularity. But for nearly15 years, the app never had an optimized tablet version: users had to settle for a stretched-out phone version, which resulted in empty margins on the sides and problems loading high-resolution photos.

Today, that’s no longer the case, as the official Instagram* app for iPad, designed specifically for iPadOS (versions 15.1 and up), is now available on the App Store.

What’s New in Instagram* for iPad

  • Full-screen interface – the app no longer looks like a larger mobile version.
  • Start screen – Reels: when users open the app, they are immediately taken to the short videos section.
  • New Following section – allows you to see only posts from accounts you are subscribed to (back-subscribed). There are three tabs available inside:
    • All – all posts and Reels from subscriptions.
    • Friends – publications from mutual subscribers.
    • Latest – feed in reverse chronological order, bringing back the classic Instagram experience*

    A long-awaited update

Instagram* CEO Adam Mosseri previously said the company didn’t release an iPad version due to limited resources, despite the fact that Meta* is a multi-billion dollar corporation. While Android tablets had already received optimized versions, the iPad remained without a standalone app.

Now that’s changing: launching a native app should improve the user experience and make it easier to work on the big screen.

Reminder that since September 1, Russia has banned all advertising on Instagram*.

    * Belongs to Meta, it is recognized as an extremist organization in Russia and its activities are banned.
