Google has added native image editing with AI in the Gemini app

Google has begun the phased launch of a new feature in the Gemini app – embedded image editing with artificial intelligence. Users will now be able to modify their own uploaded images as well as those generated by the system itself, simply by using text commands.
Text edits: from changing the background to changing the style
Editing is done using natural language queries, with Gemini preserving the context of previous changes. This allows for step-by-step adjustments to the image:
- change the background, e.g. from lawn to beach;
- add or remove objects (for example, a hat to a dog);
- change styling or color accents;
There’s also a feature that lets you upload personal photos and see how you’d look with different hair colors or styles without using third-party editors.

Text and Image Integration
Google calls this system «intuitive step-by-step editing» and one of its strengths is the combination of visual and textual content. Example: you could ask Gemini to come up with a bedtime story about dragons and accompany the story with illustrations for each part of the story.
This is especially valuable for studies, presentations or social media content creation – now you can get not only text, but also visual material in a single, customized style.
Watermarks for copyright protection
To distinguish images created with AI, Google automatically adds an invisible SynthID digital watermark to them. The company is also testing an invisible watermark -in the form of a small mark «ai» in the bottom corner of the image.
Excessive accessibility: over 45 languages and countries worldwide
The new feature has already started to appear to users of the Gemini app. It will be available in most countries and in 45+ languages in the coming weeks. Once activated, there will be a built-in offer to use the editor right in the interface.
Any of the current Gemini models will support image editing capabilities – including image generation, styling, and transformation by description.
