Gemini has started replacing Google Assistant on Wear OS

Google has begun rolling out the Gemini assistant more widely for smartwatches on Wear OS, replacing Google Assistant.
Gemini is now available on Wear OS watches
After last week’s announcement, the “Google Gemini on Wear OS” update has started showing up for more users on Google Play. To check for availability, you need to open the Play Store on your watch, scroll down to the “Manage Apps” section, and find the update in question. Once installed, you’ll see a notification saying “Gemini is now on your watch” and Google Assistant will be disabled.
- with the command “Okay, Google”;
- by long pressing the side button;
- through the app icon (it is no longer displayed first in the Launcher);
- through the Tile;
- through the element on the dial (complication).

Gemini’s interface and features on the watch
The Gemini’s interface uses a Material 3 Expressive design. The microphone button is placed near the bottom edge of the screen. Despite the renaming, the assistant can appear as “Google” or “Google Digital Assistant” in the app and tile lists. In both cases, however, it’s Gemini that launches – it’s distinguished by an asterisk icon.
At startup, you’ll see a splash screen with the Gemini symbol in the center of the screen, followed by the main “Ask Gemini” window. The design of this screen retains a blue-purple glow for now and hasn’t been updated to the proprietary four-color palette. Before replying, the assistant briefly displays the status “Connecting…”. Responses can be both text and visual – with images. At the bottom of the interface you can rate the answer (thumbs up/down) and use the microphone to continue the dialog.
