ChatGPT now has a “Think Longer” tool

Users have noticed a new switch called “Think Longer” in the ChatGPT interface, there has been no official announcement from OpenAI yet.

The new UI element appeared en masse to users without prior notice. Many have taken the new element as a possible sign of the GPT-5 launch, but so far there is no confirmation of this version.

Switch activates improved reasoning mode

According to posts on Reddit and Twitter, “Think Longer” is a toggle switch that changes the model’s behavior. Users have noted two scenarios for how it works:

  1. When enabled, the user is switched to a reasoning model (presumably o3) if a different version of ChatGPT was originally used.
  2. If the user is already on o3 or o4-mini, activating “Think Longer” increases the reasoning limit, allowing the model to produce more reasoned responses.

OpenAI has not yet made any official announcements about the launch of the new feature or its purpose. Visually, the tool looks like a regular toggle and appears without the need to update the app.

The speculation about GPT-5 has not been confirmed

Some users have linked the emergence of “Think Longer” to the release of GPT-5, but indications point only to expanding the capabilities of reasoning models within the existing architecture.

OpenAI representatives have not commented on the new feature and have not released technical details or a release date.
