Google is replacing Assistant with Gemini in Chrome OS

In 2017, Google added Google Assistant to Chrome OS, giving users a virtual assistant to perform a multitude of tasks. Now, more than seven years later, the company has decided to replace it with Gemini, a more advanced version of the artificial intelligence.
Chrome OS M134 brings three new features
With the release of Chrome OS M134 update, users will notice one of the key changes – the introduction of Gemini instead of Google Assistant. The new Assistant icon will now appear in the top right corner of the panel when you open the Launcher. However, along with the changes come a few limitations.
Disadvantages of switching to Gemini
Unlike Google Assistant, the new virtual assistant doesn’t support voice activation. The “Hey Google” command no longer works, which makes interacting with the AI less convenient.
Another limitation is that Gemini doesn’t integrate with Google Home, whereas Google Assistant allowed you to control smart devices directly through Chrome OS.

What makes Gemini better than Google Assistant?
Despite these shortcomings, the new virtual assistant offers more advanced functionality. Gemini is able to better handle tasks and adapt to user requests. Owners of devices like the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook will get a smarter, more efficient assistant.
