Google integrates Chirp 3 voice AI into Vertex AI: a new wave of generative AI

Google has been actively developing generative AI, and the next step is working with voice. The company announced that it will add Chirp 3, its advanced voice model, to Vertex AI as early as next week.

Last week, Google introduced 8 new voices for 31 languages as part of Chirp 3. This technology is designed to create voice assistants, audiobooks, automated support agents and video voiceovers.

Chirp 3 will be part of Google’s AI ecosystem, along with:

Limitations and competition in the voice AI market

Google is imposing restrictions on the use of Chirp 3 to prevent abuse. «We’re working with the security team to set things up intelligently»” said Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud.

Now Google is actively catching up with competitors such as Microsoft, Amazon and ElevenLabs, which have already invested hundreds of millions of dollars in voice AI development.

One of the most promising competitors has been startup Sesame, whose models such as «Maya» and «Miles» have impressed users with their realism. DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, however, believes this is just the beginning of a long journey.

Vertex AI was launched in 2021 as a platform to handle machine learning in the cloud. However, with the arrival of OpenAI and ChatGPT, interest in generative AI has skyrocketed, and Google is having to catch up.
